Shower removal

Post by Riste »

As part of my "project" I would like to remove the shower temporarily. Due to some leakage I would like to check the floor under the shower, while it is out I would also change both the sink and shower trap to a Hepvo style (that assumes that I can get to the shower trap). Before reinstalling it I would also glue some insulation to the back, sides, bottom, and top.
Has anyone had experience with this?
Thanks.

I haven't removed the shower (and don't plan to), but I bet you could. Not to the outside obviously (too large) but into the main room (while you have the closet and fridge out). But wait, are you saying you don't WANT carpet under your shower stall?

On the sink trap, no problem. It will be right there (it's already somewhat accessible from the tire locker). Shower trap I don't think so. I think access to the shower trap will require dropping the grey tank and doing it from below. It's crammed in right above the grey tank, and right under the floor, but not right below the shower drain. It's shown fairly well in this drawing from the 1998 manual:

The blue dashed line attempts to show the level of the Chinook floor. The trap is crammed up against it underneath. This is why I am very sure to put RV antifreeze in that trap if it's even going to get close to freezing! Not my idea of a fun thing to work on. That said, I'm going to be dropping my grey tank at some point and I'm planning to put on a Hepvo in place of the shower P-trap if possible.
