Help with led light strips
Help with led light strips
Ok everyone. I ordered my led bulbs for the bathroom light . I need help on what exactly to get for led "string light" to replace the original amber rope light above the couch on each side of the inside coach?? Is it 12 volt? Will I just cut the wires loose from the originals and tie in to that? I looked on e-bay and got lost and confused on what I need. I want 12 volt amber or yellow light strip to mount in the place of the originals so not to pull much juice and don't get hot. Someone please steer me in the right direction.

Yes, it is 12 VDC, but most of the string LED light still can get pretty hot. I would get the dimmest one you can find. Those LED lamps are very, very bright, compare to the miniature incandescent ones we have on the rig originally. You may want to check out some of the other threads on the board, I think there are a couple.

FWIW My 2004 Premier had non-functioning lights in the bathroom that turned out to be the switch. I replaced them with waterproof LED self stick strip lights. I just cut to length and soldered them to the existing 12v wires and replaced the switch.

Re: Help with led light strips
Well my led replacement bulbs came in for my bathroom light. As everyone stated they are VERY BRIGHT. I bought a package of 4 for only $10 and they fit just fine. They are so bright I only am using ONE BULB!!. The package says automotive backuplight bulbs. I hoped the extra I bought would fit the backup light for coach but it DOES NOT. Oh well. I have plenty of spares!!

Re: Help with led light strips
Note that LED strip lights come in at least 2 flavors - those that have a voltage regulator built in to keep it right at 12 volts, and those that do not. The usual cheap LED strips from China, etc, do not have regulation and are really suited for 12 volts max, while our rigs are really 12 volts minimum (they're mostly at 12.2-14.8 depending on battery state and whether they are charging).

Note I am talking about the strips that you can cut, not the drop-in LED replacement 'bulbs' that just go into an incandescent socket (though from my research it seems many of those run much hotter than they should, too).

Re: Help with led light strips
I have just decided not to use those amber lights above the windows. I am happy with my led bulb in bathroom now but still won't use it for a night light anymore. I am going to just go to the dollar store and get a 110 volt led night light and leave it plugged in at the back receptacle. Also I put a battery operated motion sensored toilet light in the bathroom. But for night time showers I can still flip on the overhead bathroom light. Think I am good to go with that.
