New ownership

Post by LosLaureles »

Just purchased 2000 Premier 85k miles all original. Previous owners kept everything covered. I have everything working but dont know what a switch does located above the rear view mirror controls. Can anyone help? Please see photo

1 to flip on the heated mirrors and the other to move the mirrors around. (I think? 80% sure)

Yes, it heats the side view mirrors when the red indicator shows.
I plan to change it out to a backlit one or one with a small red or green light to show it's on. I've left it in the on position before since I didn't have a visual cue, and I don't like doing that.
Unfortunately, only the passenger side works.

Yep, like they said.

Speaking of the mirrors, I never thought I'd be all gaga over power mirrors (because once you have them adjusted who cares, right?), but now I'd hate to have to give them up. So nice to be able to, for example, tilt the passenger side one down to get a good look at the right/rear wheel in certain situations. Or up to watch a branch.

Congrats on the new Chinook!

PS: You likely have Velvac mirrors, either model 2015 or 2020. If they are the 2015, there is a thread here on adjusting the tension (I can't speak to the 2020). If you look at the socket where the long arm joins to the door you can tell the difference. The 2015 fits into a "cup" (with a solid piece facing forward) whereas the 2020 is free to go forward or back (no cup like solid front on the door bracket).

Thanks for the help. Great the vehicle has heated mirrors, don't know if they work. I was hoping the switch was a double switch for the porch light. Yes, the forum is correct, mirrors are Velvac. I saw the owners manual when reviewing the records. Obvious I did not read. I was looking through the service records trying to develop a mechanical plan of attack. This is what I know:
New Motor Oil at 85K by PO
Master Cylinder flushed at 85K by PO
Looked like PO serviced motor every 5K
Radiator flush at 81K but in 2012
New Transmission at 55K done by Ford
Roof good
New Windshield last week. Always good to buy a car in the rain. CA vehicle so minimal rust
Passed smog but EGR continues to throw a code will solve today

That is a beautiful ride! We have only had ours a few months and are relatively new members on this forum also. Would I be out of line asking how much you had to give for one as nice as that with those low miles? Respectfuly curious.
