Which amp Pro Dynamic do I need??
Which amp Pro Dynamic do I need??
After getting feedback from ya'll I am fixing to pull the trigger on a new Progressive Dynamic charger!! My 2014 batteries won't hold a charge and don't want to install new ones until I get a better/safer charger that won't damage them. I searched e-bay and this is what I came up with...PD4635 is a 35 AMP and 550 WATT unit. $203 free shipping but pay sales tax on all of these. PD4645 is 45 AMP and 725 WATTS. $226 and free freight PD4655 is 55 AMP and 950 WATT. $240 and free freight. So my question is for $14 more should I just order the most powerfull 55 amp unit? Pros and cons please?? I will probably just order new everstart batteries from Walmart again 27DC group 750MCA 109 amp hour at 1 amp. Stranded here because of the corona virus laws so want to spend this time working on the RV. I can have the charger delivered by April 2nd. So I can get to work.

Re: Which amp Pro Dynamic do I need??
If you have the original setup, with batteries in the outside compartment and wiring going through the LVD to the charger, than get the 45 amp model.
The LVD is rated for 50 amps max, and the wiring is sized accordingly. While, based on my experience and barring lithium batteries, the 55 amp model would most likely never pull over 45-50 amps, anyway, if it did it would/should blow the auto-resetting 50 amp fuse that exists between the batteries and LVD. But those 50 amp fuses are underneath the vehicle in a little plastic compartment and get weathered/rusted, and are annoying to replace with you blow one and it doesn't automatically reset like its supposed to (I did, which is how I found the stupid thing tucked away in that weird spot).

PD4645 45 AMP is the correct replacement that matches the OEM system. My price on Amazon shows $199, with free shipping with Prime, or $209 with free shipping without Prime.Flame wrote: March 29th, 2020, 6:50 am After getting feedback from ya'll I am fixing to pull the trigger on a new Progressive Dynamic charger!! Well, I just ordered a PD 4645 and said be here by April 3rd!! If that comes and my sewer valves and my led lights all next week then I will have plenty to keep me busy while laying around waiting for this virus thing to go away!! I'll test my replacement job on the charger with the old batteries at first before I go to Walmart and spend another $300 on a pair of batteries. I would just hate to have something hooked up wrong and screw up brand new batteries right off the bat. We live on 25 acres and my closest neighbor is 1/2 mile away and across a blacktop road from us.

Yup, you order the correct one. It is a lot more work to get the higher amp version, and I am sure both Chinook (if they are still around) and Progressive Dynamics would not recommend it. The charger/converter upgrade is not difficult. Just make sure you label the wires, and both the shore power and batteries are all disconnected.

Chin, I read the pdf installation instructions on the website. It does appear to be relatively simple. I also read to disconnect the onan generator? Any ideas how I am supposed to do that? Also it hit me that all power shut down I will be working in the dark with no A.C. to stay cool. I guess open all 3 doors and rooftop vent for air circulation and maybe run an extension cord and electric fan. I will actually have to look around for a good enough light to see by with these old weary eyes!! plus sitting in the middle of the floor for several hours I suspect. Hah!

I would pull the fuse on the genset main panel (inside the case) and see if you can start it without the fuse. If it does not start, then flip the 30 Amp circuit breaker right next to the fuse just to be OCD. I would also check for electricity in the AC panel with a voltmeter just to make sure. Has been surprised before.
This is only March.... how warm it is there? I would bring a work light thru an extension cord if I need extra light like you said, and there should be a flash light that you have in the rig as part of the vehicle kit. I use a foam pad or a pair of knee pad if I need to work low on the ground.

Re: Which amp Pro Dynamic do I need??
My Pro Dynamic tracking says it will be delivered TODAY on Fed ex!! That is only 3 days since I ordered it. Getting it 2 days earlier than they said!! I'm excited now like a kid with a new toy!! May try to install it tomorrow if it doesn't rain too much. But...I can almost guarantee you it will be completed by the end of this weekend rain or shine. I do have it parked under a large awning. My sewage T-valves will be here by Friday also. Oh boy!
