Chinook among trees

Just got back from North Rim of Grand Canyon. We got baked in everywhere in Arizona, but it was very cold there at night. We stayed outside the park, and I took a photo of my Chinook among trees in infrared. I forgot to focus, and set the exposure too long, but it give you an idea of what it looks like.

Yes, Arizona is on broil setting right now to refute those in climate change denial. I’m interested in how you captured the infrared image. Back in the day I used infrared film but now I assume you worked with digital. Reason I ask is most digital cameras have a sensor filter that cuts infrared so need modification for good results. As you say, exposure tends to be guesswork. Quite the startling effect when green foliage turns white and sky black - Cheers, Ted

It was in the mid 40's F when I got up in the morning! I think it will be very interesting to meet someone who does not believe global warming, but wants to terraform Mars. I do not think I ever meet anyone who thinks that global warming is a hoax yet, except on internet forums.

The camera is a Nikon D40X, and it has the infrared filter removed. It is one of the more popular model that was modified for this purpose in past few years. There are a few companies that will do this for you if you do not have access to the tools and clean room. Another camera that often modified for this purpose is Nikon 990, but that was more popular about two decades ago.

On the way back, I stayed at Las Vegas KOA on Boulder Blvd. The Chinook Club West going to have a rally there later this year, and it was a great place. This is the first camp site that I been to in the US that has free shower, and nice bathroom. The staffs there is very helpful and friendly, and the facility is very good (but obviously not much trees around). The only other RV camp site that impressed me as much is in Waterton, Canada. Hopefully I will run into more of these sites as I do more trip in the future.
