Glacier National Park. I knew Road to the Sun was still closed due to weather. It generally doesn’t open until June or July so we only got to ride to a closed lodge ( west entrance ) about eight miles on the Road to the Sun. I didn’t know there weren’t any other roads to ride on within the park that were open. What a letdown. I bet it’s beautiful on a nicer day. Too early in the season to enjoy. The water was crystal clear in the lake.

We've been to Glacier and it is beautiful. It was odd being there and light close to 11 pm in the summer.

We hit Glacier in May a few years ago, and the road was still snowed in high up. But there were some nice hikes open on the south side. Then we drove around the outside of the park on some state highway or other - gorgeous countryside - and got part-way into the park on the north/east side, where we did some more hiking and animal-watching. We were a bit later in the month, but we still got snowed on one day, which was awesome for me, as I rarely see snow any more

Xatlatc,
Wow what a coincidence! I was at Lake McDonald yesterday, too. I was leaving around 1130, and saw a clean green Concourse coming in... maybe it was you. Record snow this year. Sorry you couldn't see the actual park. Glacier is supposedly scheduled to open 5/19 if you can stick around for a week 8-) .

Scott, I didn’t see a Premier but I could have missed you. It had to be me coming inbound to the park. The 19th, hmm.

Left Glacier and rode along Flathead Lake on the east side and passed acres of apple and cherry trees. Huge lake. Arrived in Polson for some supples and stayed the night at Eagles Nest RV Resort. Very nice.
Decided to stay another day so we could day trip to Bison National Range about 35 miles south of here and that’s when the fun started. There were two roads to choose from, Buffalo Prairie which is fairly flat or Red Sleep Mountain which just opened today for the season. We chose Red Sleep Mountain and up we went into the clouds.

The gravel road turned to mud with the Chinook sliding down if I went too fast. Red Sleep Mountain Drive went up to 4200 feet or so and then a long slide down. Been there done that. Some great views today and the sun is supposed to make an appearance tomorrow. May 19th huh?

From Bison National Range we went to St. Ignatius Mission Church in St. Ignatius, Montana for a quick tour followed by visiting a nearby car wash. The 58 murals in the church were painted by the mission cook.
