I read later that those vents actually have their own tiny traps (awww, cute widdle sewer gas traps). My guess is that the water probably evaporates from them fairly quickly (I still have the same aluminum tape on mine; four years and going strong).

I also learned that shortly after my era they (Sealand) changed our low bowl to be two inches higher (that would be a bit too much of a "throne," height-wise, IMO). (511 vs. 511+) And if a friend's was any indication, they molded a flat spot into the bowl (annoying as it doesn't drain well). So I'm treating mine with care.
