Hello HoosierB,
Not sure if it is too late but figured I would post what we did with our head unit replacement if at all helpful. We ended up going with a Kenwood double din head and it fit right it without any trim kit. I bought a trim kit along with my order from Crutchfield and the installers returned it to me without using the kit or any part of the kit. We have a 1998 Premier with the oak dash panel. I snapped a few photos - if they are too dark, let me know and I will try again in the daylight. We also swapped the door speakers and the rear upper cabinet speakers with new 6 x 9's and, going down a bit of a rabbit hole, added a 5 channel amp and subwoofer. The head unit has a backup camera(kenwood), GPS, appleplay, phone(bluetooth/mic), and DVD player. I also pulled the old 6" tv and vhs player and connected a new flat screen to the video-out so we now have a home theater experience with a bit of rumble from the sub. l
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
geoff123

Hey geoff123....I have a couple of Kenwood double din HUs on my Crutchfield wish list! Would like to know what unit you bought. I also put new Kenwood 6x9s in the door panels. Thanks for the pics!
Maybe a few better close-ups ...looks like some sort of "side fillers" were installed?

I installed the Kenwood DNX694S head unit, CMOS-230 camera and the Metra Ford multi-kit 1995-2011 95-5817. There is no spacer but looking closer I think they did use the kit because it has grab flanges on each side - I never looked at the kit before install - just handed everything over, the kit does have the flanges pictured in paperwork I did not realize they were not part of the main unit. It pulls out with a good tug but otherwise has no play to speak of.

Re: Cab Dash Stereo Replacement
I would agree the installer used the kit or part of it. I would also say that judging by your picture, the side "flanges" appear to be protruding out a bit more than should be. IMHO based on other photos for double din installs in the Econoline dash.geoff123 wrote: February 20th, 2020, 7:34 pm There is no spacer but looking closer I think they did use the kit because it has grab flanges on each side

What worked for me and because I had a real nice set of 4 speakers back in my coach...I installed a nice stereo right above where the vcr used to be and keep the remote up front with me. I didn't want to mess with crappy original in dash radio swap or the crappy door speakers. And I love the great sound coming from behind me instead of blaring in my face. I usually have a cd in it I like or I Bluetooth to Pandora or such. If I need to talk I just hit the pause or mute button on my remote.

Re: Cab Dash Stereo Replacement
I ultimately decided against replacing cab or coach stereo and instead travel with my Bose Mini Speaker that has Bluetooth. When driving I have upfront on console and when parked I have in back on table. The Bose has great depth and sound fills up camper Great. I use my ihpone and ipad with it.
Side benefit is when I Am outside Relaxing or getting fishing gear ready I bring speaker with me, plus it doesn’t have to be close to rig to work.
