If I was still married I know I'd have some nail polish remover around!
Just apply these things with your finger or paper towel and rub in a circular motion. If it works, the adhesive gets soft and turns into a gooey substance that can be wiped off with a clean paper towel. It may smear around, but you can add more solvent or just keep wiping until you pick it all up.

Since your wife is no longer there, here is a tip. If there is one cleaner/solvent you should invest for use around the house, it is goo-gone for removing price tag residue, tape residue, crayon marks, etc. You can buy it at the grocery store or drug store for a few bucks, it is citrus-based, so it smells good. It is handy to have around for cleaning up goo, and a little bottle lasts forever. We discovered it years ago. (however, peanut butter works almost as good, but it is messier.)

Finally finished getting all the glue residue off and the bumper is clean. Took a couple hours to do but it was nice out.
