Chinook RV

Mrs Gabbi and I removed the old (22 years) carpet with utility knife, carpet shears & elbow grease. Then Mrs G made a template of the floor with construction paper. We purchased underlayment padding and Armstrong vinyl sheet (nice thick version). I laid the underlayment and affixed with carpet tape along edges. Mrs G cut the vinyl sheet in accordance with the template and she laid it on top of the underlayment (floating). We are both very pleased with the result.

Wish I had a MRS. G. I can barely get my girlfriend to set foot in my beast.

I wish my wife will bring me with her for facial and manicure at her favorite spa....

My wife doesn't go in ours, she really has no interest in using it. Actually I am good with that since I don't have to take her on my fishing runs....if she went it would be more about keeping her happy and less about fishing.

Let’s be clear about things. I really appreciate what my husband is doing for the Chinook. But I am the one who got him into camping and the out of doors. I hope that you get partners involved in your hobbies/lifestyle - if that is what you want. But if he did not enjoy it, it would not be fun for me either.

I previously had a truck camper (slide in camper ). He did not enjoy that, but he came up with the Chinook idea, and we both enjoy it.

Hear hear, Mrs G! I have buddies, but my wife is also my buddy. We pretty much enjoy the same things. Well, except for working on, and tinkering with, our toys, but that’s fine. That’s when I get to lose myself.

Question for the group- when did they move from the nasty carpet padding I read about, to the more rubberized material? Just getting prepped for what we will find. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like a much bigger job if it has the padding.

My guess is you'd have to take a peek, because of Concourse/Premier, and possible overlap of types. My '99 Concourse has carpet with a plain jute type back, and then the sort of pad that looks like a bunch of chips of different color foam pressed together. I wouldn't say it was nasty, other than the 15 years of sand and etc. that was under it.

I've removed both carpet and pad from the couch area back to the door (i.e. kitchen and hallway). It wasn't particularly difficult or even messy. No glue (whew), just staples. I used a utility knife, vise grips (to pull the staples) and a small screwdriver and hammer to get a few of the more stubborn staples up enough so I could catch them with the vise grips. Then a vacuum. Plus eye protection and good gloves. I had no designs on re-using the pad.

My year has a plywood floor. Sometime around 2002 they went to a composite floor, but not sure of exact timing nor Concourse/Premier variation.
