Wrong temp on rear view mirror

Post by Manitou »

Anyone have a clue how to correct this? (It's definitely way hotter than this thing says. It actually said "ice" when it was over 75 degrees out)

There is an info sheet on the mirror that I think references calibrating it which might help. My manuals are all in the vehicle in the shop so can't check or post it right now.

Jeanie,

You have a reference sheet for the mirror?! Oh my, am I happy to read that. I have searched and searched for specific info on that mirror. On the fuse block they reference a "Prince" mirror, but I have only ever found the patent description for it online. On mine, the temperature is fine, but the compass says "CAL" 95% of the time (i.e. please calibrate me). I Googled around and found the idea of driving in a circle (generic instructions, not specific to my mirror). Tried that and it worked for about a half hour and then went back to ... CAL. Dagnabbit!

Manitou: Guess we have opposite problems. Maybe Jeanie's sheet will have some information about the temperature sensor as well. I've seen that some Ford camper vans show the thermometer sensor being near the front of the grille, but I didn't see it in the described place on mine (but then, not sure what it looks like). But you might look for something there? I could see it reading too hot if it accidentally got near something hot in the engine compartment, but too cold? That's a mystery. It also seems you might have a different version of the mirror than I do, as mine doesn't describe the temperature (e.g. "ice") but merely shows the temperature in digits.

I had not seen that - thanks! It looks a bit different than mine. Mine says "CAL" and not "C," and I'm not sure I have a power button, so not sure how I set zones. But I will have a closer look at it in light of this document - especially looking for a power button.

Oddly, I did the circle thing a few times and it did then display properly, but it didn't "stick." I'm hoping since Jeanie has a 2000 and I have a 1999 that her instruction sheet might be for my exact mirror.

The info sheet on the mirror is "Donnelly Electronics Compass/Temperature Mirror Quick Reference Guide". Does not give a model or part number

All the calibration has to do with the compass, including driving in circles "typically 2-3 revolutions". Nothing on temperature. It does describe the mirror dimming switch and other items in the display.

Hi Jeanie,

I know Manitou asked about temperature, but can I ask: Does it say anything else about calibrating the compass? Just drive in circles and nothing else? I'll gladly take any shred of info. as I have only found things online that clearly don't match my mirror. Good chance yours is the same as mine since our rigs are so close in year.

Thanks.

Here is the mirror information sheet for the Donnelly mirror that's in Jeanie's 2000 Concourse. As it turns out, my 1999 Concourse doesn't have the same mirror (dern!), so the instructions do not directly pertain -- but they may very well help another Chinooker who does have this model mirror.

I will see if this will upload legibly within the attachment size limit of the forum (will be reducing it from ~1,000kb to under 250kb).

Double-clicked on the attachment and it blows up to be completely legible. Yay!
