Replaced Converter

Our batteries were not charging, so we replaced the converter: MagnaTec out & Progressive Dynamics in (PD website specifically described theIr model which replaced our old MT). We ordered the converter from Walmart and it arrived promptly. It cost about $200. We thought that we could simply remove the old one and replace it with the new, I.e., plug & play. NOT.
When the old one was removed, it revealed that a fire had occurred and the buss bar etc was charred. So much for us doing the work. Off to the camper fix-it folks who for about $500 labor and parts fixed the mess. Now all is good in the battery charging department.
RV reminds me of what someone told me about what BOAT means: Blow Off Another Thousand !
But the fun of traveling about in our Chinook makes it worth it, no ?

All these rigs are fairly aged so I found out hard way even if in good condition stuff happens and other stuff needs replacing. But well worth it.

The fire is not what Progressive Dynamics is meant to address to replace the old converter in Plug & Play way. To replace the AC panel, it should be maybe $150 or $200, but I assume it is just damage inside the panel, which can be taken care of with a new panel. I agree completely that it is better to get a licensed electrician to do the AC stuffs for the peace of mind.

Your electrician was on my mind when I was typing that. At least with a licensed and bonded person, there is something to go after if things goes wrong. And I really think they are much better with what they were trained to do much, much better than the average.

I agree Chin, I think the lesson is just make sure electrician understands power needs of RV, as I discovered not all do:(
