best seat covers

Post by Flame »

Just purchased our 1998 concourse 6 days ago and want to protect the original upholstery as the rig only has 40,000 miles on it. Any advise on what to use or recommend would be greatly appreciated. Note:...I do not want sheepskin. Thanks in advance.

If you have the Flexsteel OEM seats, it may be difficult to find "off the shelf" covers.

This is the company that offers the sheepskin covers, but also other fabrics. And because they provide fitment for the Flexsteel captain chairs, maybe worth a look:

Another possibility in their "custom seat cover" section:

Good luck!

This definitely doesn't fit the category of "best" seat covers, which is why I didn't reply earlier. But, if you are looking for something in the meantime (while you research or wait), I can say that a large square of fleece (the stuff you can buy at Wal-Mart or Jo-Ann or whatever) will cover the seats easily and it kind of "sticks" to the velvet so doesn't shift around horribly. If you have not worked with fleece before, you can just cut it and the raw edge is blunt and no raveling. What I did was just cut a generous rectangle and then take the two corners that would go over the back of the seat and knot them behind the headrest. Easy, quick, and easy to pull off and wash.

Totally *not* in the category of best seat covers, but might have its uses. My seats were also like new and even though I know I should probably just enjoy them, I can't overcome the urge to keep them looking perfect. So I get it.

There are ones made that do not "cover" the entire seat but are placed over the seat and back cushion surfaces.
I have leather, so I want to make it last as long as possible. Autozone has some nice but spendy ones that fit the bill. My sister has them on her new SUV, and they're nice.
I failed to do that in my Mercedes 560 SEC and the leather eventually started cracking, even though it was the tougher, long lasting version that Mercedes used back then. I don't want that to happen to my Chinook.

I make a point in nourishing them regularly with leather creams, should prevent cracking.

Maybe it's only certain ones, but my car came to me with that flat style of seat cover. I called them "seat flaps," and I couldn't wait to get rid of them! Reason is they were constantly needing adjustment or you had to get in and out *so carefully* to keep them in place. Ugh.

In this case it was because they were designed to accommodate the in seat airbags on the car -- but we don't have that on the Chinook.
