I'm a proud new owner of a 1999 Chinook Premiere. The wife and I are about to head off on a 6 month adventure across the US. Woo!
As I'm sorting out the lingering issues, one I'm stumped on is how I can best go about repairing a broken screen FRAME for the left side Chinook window.
There's two issues I need to resolve:
(1) For the 90 degree "bend" in the window screen frame, that piece has snapped off entirely. Originally, this piece of the frame was held on by a 90 degree metal bracket that was "tapped in" to the other portion of the screen frame. I have no idea how to remove these broken pieces, nor how to replace them [ideas on an entirely different solution is below].
(2) the larger part of the screen frame is a good bit "warped". Some spots that should be straight have an "arc" to them and other spots are slightly "twisted" such that the frame doesn't want to naturally align flush anymore.
Obviously the screen itself is also broken and needs to be repaired, but that part is easy assuming I can get the frame itself in good shape.
CURRENT IDEAS (please offer critiques / other probably better, suggestions
(1) Fix the "90 degree" part by actually metal gluing a 90 degree bracket to the outside of the frame, and just filing down the broken internal connector. I think I can do this without impinging on how the screen rides on the track.
(2) Good ol' elbow grease and careful bending / tugging to get the twisted parts of the frame back into a somewhat better alignment.
Good to meet you all (I've lurked a LOT), and thanks in advance!
